A 57-year-old man has been charged in connection with ramming an RCMP cruiser and injuring a Mountie on the north Perimeter Highway Tuesday.
Mounties are trying to identify drivers whose vehicles may have been struck by the vehicle that swerved in and out of traffic.
RCMP traffic officers were called about a dangerous driver near the Centreport exit at about 6 p.m. Multiple 911 callers said a speeding grey Chevrolet Traverse SUV had nearly hit several vehicles.
On May 7, a driver allegedly rammed one of the RCMP vehicles multiple times before other officers were able to box in the vehicle near Henderson Highway. (RCMP handout)
As Mounties searched for the vehicle, another caller said the SUV had struck a vehicle and had taken off.
Officers came upon the vehicle travelling down the centre of the Perimeter Highway, near Highway 9, and tried to pull it over, but the SUV rammed another vehicle.
As Mounties in multiple cruisers tried to get the driver to stop, he allegedly rammed one of the police vehicles multiple times, before other officers boxed in the vehicle near Henderson Highway.
One Mountie was hurt but did not require medical treatment.
RCMP say the driver refused to co-operate so officers carried him from the vehicle. He was taken to hospital with minor injuries.
The Winnipeg man has been charged with refusing a drug test demand and was released ahead of a court date. Further charges are expected to be laid.
As RCMP officers were attempting to stop a vehicle, the driver rammed one of the police vehicles several times. RCMP arrested the driver, a 57-year-old male from Winnipeg. (RCMP handout)
Mounties ask that witnesses to the event, anyone whose vehicle was struck, call traffic investigators at 204-984-6913.
