The Winnipeg Jets made a pair of free agent signings on Wednesday to boost the organizational depth chart.

Forward Mason Shaw and defenceman Haydn Fleury both inked one-year, two-way deals for the league-minimum of US $775,000 at the NHL level and substantially less should they find themselves in the AHL.

Shaw, 25, is a rugged forward who was drafted in the fourth round by the Minnesota Wild in 2017. The Alberta product has played 82 regular-season NHL games over his career, with eight goals, 12 assists and 118 penalty minutes. He’s also skated in 197 AHL games, scoring 43 goals and adding 78 assists.

Shaw, who is five-foot-10 and 184 pounds, missed much of last season recovering from the fourth ACL surgery of his career.

Fleury, 27, was the seventh-overall pick in the 2014 NHL draft by the Carolina Hurricanes and has 268 NHL games on his resume, with 10 goals and 27 assists. He’s also appeared in 106 AHL games with 11 goals and 28 assists.

The Saskatchewan native is six-foot-four and 207 pounds and is a left-handed shot.

Shaw will be in the mix for a fourth-line role with the Jets, while Fleury should compete for a depth spot on the blue-line. They’ll help replace the likes of forwards like Jeff Malott and Jeffrey Viel and defenceman Kyle Capobianco, who spent last year with the Manitoba Moose and have now signed with new teams in free agency.

Winnipeg also inked depth forward Jaret Anderson-Dolan on Tuesday for a similar purpose, along with goaltenders Eric Comrie and Kaapo Kahkonen on Monday. One of them will win the backup job with the Jets behind Connor Hellebuyck, while the other is expected to partner with Thomas Milic on the Moose.

Winnipeg’s only other signing was defenceman Colin Miller on Monday, who figures to slot into a third-pairing role with the big club.

Jets general manager Kevin Cheveldayoff still has five restricted free agents who need new deals including forwards Cole Perfetti and David Gustafsson and defencemen Logan Stanley, Ville Heinola and Simon Lundmark.
