Hey there, time traveller!

With a special emphasis on serving Thompson, Manitoba and the surrounding communities, NCN Thompson Bus connects the north and the south with shipping and chartering services. They’ve stepped up to meet the retail and business needs of the north by shipping items as happy as a birthday cake, as necessary as automotive parts, and as critical as transporting evacuees from northern communities under fire threat.

“We would like to be the preferred solution provider when somebody thinks about freight and charters going from south to north, north to south, east or west,” says Sid Varma, COO and partner at NCN Thompson Bus Ltd.

In partnership with Nisichawayasihk Cree Nation, NCN Thompson Bus proudly rolled onto the highway in September of 2018 servicing all northern Manitoba communities along Hwy 6 and Hwy 280, with a mission statement of connecting the north: a solution for northerns from northerns.

As such, the freight and cargo end is a strong, year-round link in the supply chain, reliably shipping the goods which support quality of life in the north, providing service seven days a week with freight collection and drop-off in Thompson and Winnipeg.

“We provide end-to-end solutions including freight pick-up from the starting location to final mile delivery,” says Varma.

“If our client has done some shopping for parts, groceries, furniture or is collecting a parcel or package from Winnipeg or Thompson, our pick up team will go, pick it up, and bring it to your doorstep.”

Other deliveries have included such things as home gym equipment, and specialty grocery purchases for local ethnic communities – which arrive overnight.

Another crucial service is pharmaceuticals delivery.

“We’ve been able to provide shipping for pharmacies all along Highway 6. In that instance, the bus goes location to location and those items never see our depot,” he says.

NCN Thompson Bus carries larger freight as well.

“Auto dealers in Thompson rely on us to deliver parts from Winnipeg on a daily basis – something other companies do not offer. We ship every single day so they can get those parts,” he says.

“We also do delivery for mobile repair, welding shops, and electrical shops.”

NCN Thompson Bus is also a well-established, reliable charter service for a variety of groups, facilitating attendance at events that might otherwise be out of reach, such as the Red River Ex, hockey games and sports tournaments, field trips for students, and even a pilgrimage to Lac St. Anne. In fact, NCN Thompson Bus carries a Canada-wide permit.

“We’ve done charters for sporting groups and teams, schools, choir, seniors groups, and weddings,” he says.

“We also play a key role in rescue charters for evacuations of northern communities because of fires. This August we mobilized approximately 2000 people.”

Sid Varma says NCN Thompson Bus is taking the long view to providing service to the community.

“We are developing these sustainable, long-term transport solutions right here in Thompson for generations to come.”
