Numerous road closures will be in place Saturday for the annual Santa Claus Parade.
BROOK JONES / FREE PRESS FILES Santa Claus waves to the crowd during the 2023 parade.
The parade starts at 5 p.m. Sponsored “block parties” start at 4 p.m.
The parade route will begin at Portage Avenue at Main Street, head west on Portage to Memorial Boulevard and then south on Memorial to Broadway.
Road closures begin at 11 a.m. and end at 10 p.m. on the following routes:
- Portage, in both directions, between Main and Memorial
- Portage Avenue East from Main to Westbrook Street
- Southbound Main from Portage to York Avenue
- Memorial in both directions between Broadway and Portage
- Edmonton Street from Graham Avenue to Portage
- Vaughan Street between Graham and Portage
All other north-south streets between Main and Memorial will be open to local and parkade access only between Ellice Avenue and Broadway. Vehicles will not be able to cross Portage on any of these streets.
Drivers and cyclists will not be able to cross Memorial on eastbound York or westbound St. Mary Avenue but can use the roads on either side of Memorial.
Broadway and northbound Main will be open throughout the day but are expected to have high traffic volumes, the City of Winnipeg said in a news release Thursday.
Many turn-related and other travel restrictions will be in place on Ellice, York, Broadway, and Portage Avenue East.
Motorists are advised to use alternate routes and possibly expect longer travel times while the closures are in effect.
