Winnipeg police officers on patrol in the North End had their hands full with a string of unrelated stabbings Friday evening.
But a Winnipeg Police Service spokesman said it’s just a typical night.
“It’s a high volume area for calls… I don’t think there’s any time where they have down time,” said Const. Steve Spencer.
“With this warm weather, that definitely can affect it… when the weather warms up, we tend to get a lot more of these incidents… it’s people who don’t know how to behave and turn to violence, instead of just leaving.”
In the first incident, a woman in her 30s showed up to a store on the 300 block of Mountain Avenue, bleeding and asking for help after she had been stabbed.
Officers arrived and gave her first aid before she was taken to hospital in stable condition, police said.
Tactical and patrol officers arrested a woman in her 20s nearby, who knew the victim. She’s to be charged with robbery and weapons offences and has been held in custody, police said.
A half hour later, patrol and tactical officers were called to the 1200 block of Jefferson Avenue, where they found a seriously injured man in his 20s.
A man in his 30s, who knew the victim, was arrested at the scene. After he was treated, the victim was also arrested for a prior assault he’s accused of, police said. Both men will be charged with assault and were released on undertakings.
Later, at about 11:30 p.m., patrol officers and the dog unit were called to the 800 block of Alfred Avenue, where a man in his 40s had been stabbed in a robbery. He was rushed to hospital in unstable condition, but was later upgraded to stable condition.
A suspect, who was a stranger to the victim, fled the scene, police said. Major crimes detectives are working on identifying the suspect.
