Three men are facing charges after employees were assaulted during two convenience-store robberies in the North End.

The first incident happened at A.J. Grocery at 532 Redwood Ave. at about 10 p.m. Tuesday. Police said three males armed with edged weapons stole about $150 of merchandise and an undisclosed amount of cash.

Hours later, at about 12:15 a.m. Wednesday, three suspects — all armed with edged weapons — assaulted an employee at the M & M convenience store at the northwest corner of Main Street and Mountain Avenue.

The men fled with $60 in cash, an undisclosed amount of store merchandise and an employee’s personal property. Officers saw two suspects walking in a nearby parking lot and arrested them after a short foot chase, the Winnipeg Police Service said in a news release Thursday.

Officers found merchandise from one of the commercial businesses in the yard of a home on the 300 block of Charles Street.

The employee suffered a minor injury to “their upper body” and declined medical attention, police said.

The major crimes unit continued to investigate the robberies. A third suspect was arrested at a home on the 200 block of Polson Avenue at about 4:15 p.m.

Two Winnipeg men, ages 19 and 18, and a 19-year-old Bloodvein man have been charged. The Bloodvein man threatened to kill one of the officers while being arrested, police said.

All three men were detained in custody.

A contractor was at the M & M store Thursday afternoon installing a new security entrance.
