The Manitoba Liberals have announced their candidate for next month’s Transcona byelection.
Brad Boudreau, 30, has lived in Transcona his entire life, a Wednesday news release said. Boudreau, who is Métis, works as a policy adviser to federal Crown-Indigenous Relations and Northern Affairs Minister Gary Anandasangaree.
Before joining the federal government in 2022, Boudreau worked as a senior policy analyst with Manitoba Indigenous Reconciliation and Northern Relations, a provincial government department. He also spent nearly a decade working for the Manitoba Métis Federation.
Boudreau has a bachelor’s degree in political studies from the University of Manitoba, where he founded the Métis University Students’ Association, the release said.
The byelection is March 18. Advance voting starts March 8.
Former Transcona city councillor Shawn Nason, 56, was announced as the Progressive Conservative candidate Friday. Transcona Collegiate vice-principal Shannon Corbett, 53, was announced as the NDP candidate on Feb. 18.
Boudreau and Corbett are single, with no children, while Nason is married, with three children.
Only the NDP and PC candidates had registered to vote as of late Wednesday afternoon.
The Transcona seat became vacant when NDP cabinet minister Nello Altomare died in January.
Voters have until Thursday to register or update their information to ensure they receive a voter information card in the mail.
Eligible voters who have not already received a card or received a card with incorrect information can go to electionsmanitoba.ca or contact the local election office to register, correct or update their information.
Voters can still register and vote at a poll during advance voting and on election day.
