A Winnipeg man is facing more than a dozen charges after a stolen SUV collided with another vehicle and later crashed into a light standard.
Police said the 2008 Mitsubishi Endeavor was reported stolen from the area of Broadway and Sherbrook Street on Tuesday.
It collided with another vehicle in the area of Notre Dame Avenue and Wall Street on Sunday morning. The driver then headed southbound on Erin Street and hit the light standard at the intersection of Ness Avenue and Ferry Road at about 10:15 a.m.
After the second crash, police were told a man and a woman got out of the vehicle and left westbound on Ness in a ride-hailing vehicle.
Police stopped the vehicle at Ness and Olive Street and arrested two people. The Winnipeg Police Service said Monday that officers seized a machete, about $135 worth of methamphetamine, a bolt carrier from a .22-calibre rifle and someone else’s firearms licence when searching the man and the stolen SUV.
The gun part was determined to belong to a rifle reported stolen from the Ottawa area in 1975, the WPS said. The firearms licence had also previously been reported stolen.
A 22-year-old man is charged with 13 offences, including two counts each of failing to comply with a probation order and conditions of a release order. He was detained in custody.
The woman, 22, was not charged and was released on her own recognizance.
