City police seized three stolen vehicles, drugs and a knife in a series of unrelated traffic stops between Wednesday evening and early Thursday.
At about 6:45 p.m. Wednesday, officers saw a 2015 Ford F150 on the 100 block of Clarke Street that had been reported stolen from the first 100 block of Manitou Bay on Tuesday and followed it from the Osborne Village area to River Heights.
The driver abandoned the truck on the first 100 block of Harvard Street and was arrested after a brief foot pursuit, the Winnipeg Police Service said in a news release Thursday. Officers seized a folding knife from the 31-year-old woman, the WPS said.
Later Wednesday, at 11:41 p.m., officers stopped a 2007 Saturn Aura with an incorrect licence plate affixed at Salter Street and McGregor Avenue and determined the car had been reported stolen Tuesday. Officers arrested a 63-year-old man.
Early Thursday, at 12:05 a.m., police saw a 2021 Dodge Ram at a gas station on the 200 block of Isabel Street and determined it had been stolen from the 700 block of Keewatin Street sometime between March 20 and Monday. The driver fled on foot as officers approached. Police called in a canine unit, tracked a suspect to a nearby yard and arrested a 37-year-old woman.
Shortly after, at 12:20 a.m., officers saw a 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt “not following rules of the road” in a lane behind Sherbrook Street and stopped it on the 600 block of Furby Street. Police, suspecting drug trafficking, arrested two men, ages 37 and 49, and searched the car. They found methamphetamine with an estimated street value of $50,000 and cash, the WPS said.
Later, at about 2 a.m., police saw a 2015 Mazda 3 driving in the area of Charles Street and Machray Avenue with improper lighting. Officers, suspecting drug trafficking, arrested the driver and searched him and the car. They seized eight grams of crack cocaine worth about $800, about $3,500 in cash, multiple cellphones and drug-packaging materials. A 31-year-old man from Mississauga, Ont., was detained and is facing charges.
