Six people are facing charges in connection with drugs being shipped from British Columbia to Winnipeg.
The Winnipeg Police Service’s guns and gangs unit launched an investigation into the trafficking operation in December.
On Jan. 3, a package containing 10 kilograms of methamphetamine with an estimated street value of $100,000 and 2 kg of cocaine worth about $80,000 was sent from a business in Surrey. It was intercepted during transport and turned over to RCMP in the B.C. city, and the WPS seized the drugs as evidence.
Winnipeg investigators obtained search warrants and executed them between January and March. The locations included a home on the 2600 block of Main Street, an apartment suite in the first 100 block of Donald Street, Stony Mountain Institution, and three businesses on the 800 block of Main Street, 1200 block of Main Street and the 1100 block of Sanford Street.
Police seized drug-trafficking materials and packaging, two cars, a utility trailer, a motocross bike, two stun guns, knives, illegal cigarettes valued at $36,000 and about $45,800 in cash.
Three Winnipeg residents — men ages 42 and 36, and a 24-year-old woman — have been charged, and a 30-year-old Winnipeg man is facing charges. A 40-year-old Stony Mountain inmate has also been charged, along with a 46-year-old Surrey man.
