A woman was killed when she was hit by a pickup truck in a hit-and-run incident in Berens River last week.

RCMP officers were sent to the crash site on the community’s main road at about 9:30 p.m. Thursday. They found the 24-year-old woman and a 23-year-old man with non-life-threatening injuries.

They were struck by a northbound truck while walking on the north side of the road. The driver fled the scene, RCMP said in a news release Wednesday.

The driver was later identified as a 42-year-old local man. He was charged with dangerous driving causing death, dangerous driving causing bodily harm and driving while prohibited.

The day after the Berens River collision, a woman was killed when a car crossing the Trans-Canada Highway collided with a pickup truck near Virden.

RCMP were sent to the crash northwest of the town at 10:10 a.m. Friday. Police said in a news release that investigators believe the car was headed south on Highway 83 when it collided with a truck headed west on the Trans-Canada.

The 20-year-old lone occupant of the car was transported to hospital, where she died from her injuries. A 74-year-old man, the lone occupant of the truck, was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Earlier last week, a Swan River woman was killed in a single-vehicle rollover crash in Bowsman.

RCMP were called about the crash on River Avenue at 9:10 a.m. on April 13 and found three women outside the vehicle.

The driver, 36, had been ejected. She was taken to hospital in critical condition and died on April 15.

The two passengers, ages 22 and 19, were able to get out of the vehicle on their own, RCMP said.
