Manitoba public health officials have connected recent measles cases to exposure sites in Winnipeg and Winkler.
An update provided by the province Thursday warns that some recent cases are being diagnosed without a known contact who had measles.
If you think you were exposed to measles at any of the following locations, but have not been notified by Manitoba Health, contact Health Links-Info Santé at 204-788-8200 in Winnipeg or 1-888-315-9257 toll-free in Manitoba:
C.W. Wiebe Medical Centre in the urgent care area at 385 Main Street in Winkler, on May 22 from 10:40 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monitor yourself for symptoms until June 13.
Riverwood Church, in the Uprising Youth Group, at 270 Gordon Avenue in Winnipeg, on May 23 from 7 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. Monitor yourself for symptoms until June 14.
Winkler Sommerfeld Mennonite Church at 189 Second Street in Winkler, on May 23 from 11:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monitor yourself for symptoms until June 14.
McPhillips Medical Clinic at Unit 5-198 McPhillips Street in Winnipeg, from May 25 from 1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. Monitor yourself for symptoms until June 16.
Dynacare Laboratory and Health Services Centre at 1455 Henderson Highway, from May 26 at 1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. Monitor yourself for symptoms until June 17.
Symptoms of measles include a fever, runny nose, drowsiness or red eyes. White spots may appear in the mouth or throat, and after initial symptoms, a blotchy red rash will appear on the face and travel down the body. If symptoms develop, isolate at home and contact a health care provider. Anyone in the house who is not vaccinated against measles should limit their exposure to others.
Measles is highly infectious and can be life-threatening, particularly in young children. Immunization is the only known way to protect people from contracting measles.
