A man has been charged after he allegedly forced his way into a St. Boniface home and sexually assaulted a woman, among other crimes.

The first incident happened on the 100 block of Dupont Street, where someone  broke into a vehicle and stole property at about 6 p.m. Saturday. Shortly after, a witness spotted a man breaking into another vehicle on the 200 block of Enfield Crescent.

“When the witness intervened, the suspect picked up a brick, threatened to kill him and threw the brick before running away,” the Winnipeg Police Service said in a news release Friday.

Just after 7 p.m., a man forced his way into a home on the 300 block of Hamel Avenue, sexually assaulted a woman and pushed her to the ground.

“She screamed for help, and a neighbour chased him out of the building. Her father arrived shortly after and chased the suspect towards the area of Pioneer Avenue and Waterfront Drive, where he threw a brick at him,” the WPS said.

Officers found and arrested a man in the area of Waterfront and Bannatyne Avenue at 8:04 p.m.

None of the people involved required medical treatment, the release said.

Matthew Raymond James Stevens, 38, has been charged with six offences related to sexual assault, breaking and entering, assault with a weapon, uttering threats and theft. He was detained in custody.
