Police in Winnipeg seized a massive amount of methamphetamine, along with cocaine and cash, in May.
Winnipeg Police Service organized crime Insp. Josh Ewatski said Tuesday investigators began looking into a male suspect, but wouldn’t reveal how he became known to police.
Investigators identified three stash houses around the city and conducted raids on May 15. The suspect was picked up while leaving a home on the 100 block of La Verendrye Street.

Winnipeg police Insp. Josh Ewatski displays a large quantity of meth, cocaine and cash seized in raids.
Officers executed warrants on that home, as well as homes on the 100 block of Noble Avenue and the 200 block of Mapleglen Drive, in which they found 43 kilograms of methamphetamine, 1,968 grams of cocaine and $150,000 in cash.
“It’s a significant seizure,” said Ewatski, adding the drugs would be worth more than $2 million if sold in individual doses on the street.
Police have arrested and charged one suspect.
Investigators are still working on the case, he said.
“One can typically assume that with an operation like this, it’s more than one person involved,” he said.
Officers also found scales, a vacuum sealer, packaging material and other paraphernalia used to sell drugs.
Police said the suspect tried to ship a kilogram of cocaine in the mail to another address in Canada, but they intercepted it.
George David MacFarlane, 49, has been charged with possession of methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking, possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking and possession of the proceeds of crime over $5,000. The accused was released on an undertaking to await court proceedings.
