A man is facing more than 20 charges for a series of purse snatchings after police arrested him Wednesday.
The Manitoba integrated violent offender apprehension unit arrested Ryan William Allingham, 48, at a home on the 500 block of Bannatyne Avenue on Wednesday. He has been charged with 13 counts of use of a credit card, four counts of robbery, three counts of theft under $5,000 and two counts of failing to comply with a release order.
He was detained in custody.

Police released images of Ryan William Allingham, 48, in September. He was arrested Wednesday for a series of purse snatchings.Court records show Allingham had no involvement with the justice system before 2023. Since then, he has been convicted of assault, theft and multiple court-order breaches.
At the time of his arrest this week, he was bound by an 18-month supervised probation order and was prohibited from possessing weapons for 10 years.
The Winnipeg Police Service asked for the public’s help in finding Allingham on Sept. 17 and described five incidents that happened in the Polo Park and Crestview areas on Aug. 20 and Aug. 25. The majority of the victims were elderly women, and all of the incidents happened in parking lots.
Police later determined the same man stole a woman’s purse in a retail parking lot on the 3300 block of Portage Avenue at about 2:30 p.m. on July 14. A robber on a bike approached the victim from behind and grabbed her purse. He then used the victim’s credit card to make a number of transactions, the WPS said in a news release Friday.
The culprit was riding a bike in some or all of the robberies. Four of the incidents happened Aug. 20.
A man grabbed a victim’s purse in a hotel lot on the 2500 block of Portage shortly before 3:30 p.m. About an hour later, a man grabbed a lunch bag from a retail lot on the 800 block of St. James Street. Around the same time, a man grabbed a victim’s purse in a retail lot on the 1600 block of Ness Avenue.
“The victim was able to hold onto her purse and fell as a result of the incident, suffering a broken wrist,” the WPS said in a news release last month.
A man grabbed another victim’s purse from a shopping cart at about the same time and place.
On Aug. 25, shortly after 11:30 a.m., a man grabbed a woman’s purse in a retail lot on the 3400 block of Portage.
