A Winnipeg doctor who was sanctioned for professional misconduct in 2024 has been put on an interim suspension.

Dr. Daljit Singh Gill, who practises internal medicine, was issued the interim suspension by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Manitoba on Friday.

The reasons for the temporary suspension are unclear and no terms or conditions are attached to the interim suspension.

“Since the suspension is interim, we cannot disclose anything further at this time,” said Wendy Elias-Gagnon, a spokeswoman for the college.

In the past, Gill billed Manitoba Health multiple times for communication with pharmacies based on a single request by changing the dates of the requests, the college ruled in late 2024. Patients were often without their medication as a result.

He had submitted claims for services in which a patient record was not created, for virtual visits that never happened and for family care conferences where a family member was not present, the college concluded in 2024.

Gill was found guilty of breaching college bylaws and standards, demonstrating a “lack of skill, knowledge, and judgment in the practice of medicine” and demonstrating an unfitness to practise medicine.

His licence was suspended for six months, beginning Dec. 1, 2024; he was fined and restrictions were placed on his practice.

Gill graduated from the University of Manitoba faculty of medicine in 2008 and completed post-graduate training in internal medicine in 2012. He has worked at several clinics and personal care homes.
