Winnipeg police are investigating a serious crash that injured at least one person in St. James Friday afternoon.
A Hyundai Kona was wedged under the back of a water truck in the northbound lane of Cavalier Drive, at Hilary Crescent, after the collision happened at about 12:30 p.m.
Bystanders told a Free Press photographer they saw an injured person being loaded into an ambulance.

A car sits partially underneath a water truck that was parked by a fire hydrant stopped to refill on Cavalier Drive just north of the intersection with Morgan and Hillary Crescent Friday afternoon.
Information about the person’s condition was not yet available, police said later Friday afternoon.
The crash closed Cavalier between Hamilton and Ness avenues.
Tami Richards, who briefly witnessed the aftermath of the crash, said the driver of the Hyundai appeared to be trapped, while emergency services personnel arrived at the scene.
“It’s disheartening to see how someone’s afternoon errands or commute turned into something possibly life-altering,” she said. “I really hope the driver is OK.”
Tracy Whitelaw, who also briefly witnessed the aftermath of the crash, was shaken after seeing the driver of the SUV.
Bystanders attempted to help the driver before Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service crews arrived, she said.
“I just thought about it all day. You just hope that they are OK,” Whitelaw said.
“It’s disheartening to see how someone’s afternoon errands or commute turned into something possibly life-altering.”
Richards and some people who work in the area said drivers of water trucks stop at that location on Cavalier to fill up the trucks’ tanks at a fire hydrant.
The water truck had logos for Proscapes, a Winnipeg-area landscaping company. A man who identified himself as the company’s owner declined to comment.
