A seventh candidate has registered to run to become the next mayor of Winnipeg.
Joshua Pagdato, a 39-year-old West Kildonan resident, said his five years running the social media group Project Protect the Kids Canada, which shares information on public safety to its over 6,000 members across Facebook and Instagram, inspired him to run.
“Over a period of time, I’ve learned more about policy and systems, so I’ve become a policy and systems guy, and so I have to run for mayor of Winnipeg,” he said shortly after registering Friday.
“My objective is to get on the ballot to bring my proposals to the stage. I’m going to be the guy with 17 bylaw proposals. Essentially, what I want to do is, I want to house the homeless, heal the sick and lower the cost of living.”
Civic election day is Oct. 28.
Incumbent Scott Gillingham is seeking a second term. Grocery store clerk Chris Clacio, real estate agent Umar Hayat, funeral director Mike Vogiatzakis, security business owner Don Woodstock and political newcomer Mazher Alam are also in the running.
