A North Dakota man faces a string of charges after police say he fled the Emerson border crossing, leading RCMP on a pursuit along Highway 75.
Emerson RCMP were notified just before 6:30 p.m. Saturday that a man entering Canada from North Dakota had sped away from the port of entry after Canada Border Services Agency officers flagged him for a secondary screening.
Officers from several RCMP detachments and the Integrated Border Enforcement Team were sent to Highway 75.

One police cruiser was damaged during the pursuit but no one was hurt.
Police said Morris RCMP tried unsuccessfully to stop the vehicle south of the town. Police later blocked Highway 75 at Provincial Road 210, but said the driver went around police vehicles, drove through a ditch and narrowly missed an officer before continuing north toward Winnipeg.
RCMP pursued the vehicle and eventually brought it to a stop on Highway 75, arresting the suspect just after 7 p.m.
“This was a dangerous situation involving an armed male fleeing the port of entry and travelling at high speeds toward Winnipeg,” superintendent Chris Hastie, district commander, Manitoba east district, said in a news release Wednesday. The rapid sharing of information between CBSA and the RCMP allowed our officers to respond immediately and safely stop the suspect. The work of everyone involved was remarkable.
“We are now working closely with CBSA, law enforcement in the United States and our colleagues within RCMP Federal Policing to determine why the male fled the border.”
Police said a loaded handgun was found on the front passenger seat and several types of ammunition were seized from the vehicle.
One police vehicle was damaged during the pursuit, but no officers were injured.

Police chased the driver for about 30 minutes before pulling him over on Highway 75.
Scott Weinberger, 44, of North Dakota, was remanded in custody on 10 charges, including dangerous driving, flight from police, assaulting a peace officer with a weapon and several firearm and ammunition offences.
The investigation is ongoing.
