Three people face kidnapping and other charges after a police traffic stop in Flin Flon early Saturday morning.
Police learned two of the passengers had been threatened with a machete and forced into a vehicle bound for a bank, after pulling over a vehicle at 5:30 a.m. on Hapnot Street, a Manitoba RCMP news release said Tuesday.
Police recognized the 48-year-old driver as someone prohibited from driving and arrested him without incident.
One of the two men in the rear seat did not answer officers’ questions until two women who had also been sitting with him in the back left the scene, RCMP said.
Officers learned the men, who had met the accused earlier that evening while out, had allegedly been threatened at a residence and taken against their will by three individuals who wanted them to withdraw money from a bank.
RCMP later found a knife in the vehicle. One of the men was taken to a hospital, treated for a minor injury and released. The other was not injured.
The driver, a 48-year-old man from Sherridon, was charged with kidnapping without a firearm, forcible confinement, operating a vehicle while prohibited, assault with a weapon and uttering threats against a person.
The two women, both from Flin Flon, aged 26 and 47, were charged with kidnapping without a firearm, forcible confinement, assault with a weapon and uttering threats.
The three accused were remanded in custody.
Flin Flon RCMP said the investigation is continuing.
