Winnipeg police have launched an arson investigation into three separate fires at homes under construction.
The latest blaze caused significant damage at two houses in St. Vital early Wednesday morning.
Winnipeg Fire Paramedic crews were sent to the 200 block of Regal Avenue shortly before 4 a.m. Heavy smoke and flames were coming from the homes and were threatening nearby buildings.
(Matthew Frank / Free Press files) The recent blaze at a six-unit housing development on Archibald Street is one of the fires being investigated by police.
Additional firefighters were dispatched to the scene and some residents of neighbouring homes were evacuated.
The fire was deemed under control by 4:45 a.m.
Officers from the Winnipeg Police Service’s major crimes unit are investigating, spokesperson Const. Claude Chancy said Wednesday.
Police are also probing two blazes in St. Boniface that were five days apart.
A six-unit housing development on Archibald Street was gutted by fire on Oct. 13. Construction on the building had begun in June. The city said last week it is slated for emergency demolition.
A vacant two-storey home on the 600 block of Archibald that was undergoing renovations caught fire Sunday.
No injuries were reported in any of the fires.
Chancy said no further details about the investigation were available.
