The Winnipeg Blue Bombers announced their first signings of the off-season on Tuesday, inking a couple of non-imports to deals.

The signing of Guelph Gryphons linebacker John Rush could potentially be a bit of a coup for Bombers GM Kyle Walters. Rush won the 2015 President’s Trophy as the top defensive player in the CIS, but was a free agent because he went undrafted in 2014 when he became draft eligible, due to concerns about a knee injury.

Walters had placed Rush on the Bombers negotiation list in mid-November, which gave Winnipeg exclusive negotiating rights with the linebacker, who led the CIS in 2015 with 60 tackles.

The Bombers also announced Tuesday that they have signed punter Billy Pavlopoulos. Winnipeg originally drafted Pavlopoulos 54th overall in the 2013 CFL entry draft, but he never made the team and was later released.
