Police have arrested a Winnipeg man and charged him with sexual assault and possession of child pornography following an investigation involving police in New Zealand.
New Zealand Police contacted the Winnipeg Police Service after “several images of child sexual abuse” were shared in an online chatroom from a Winnipeg IP address between September 25 and September 26, according to a press release.
On October 5, Winnipeg police executed a search warrant in the East Elmwood neighbourhood. An adult male was later arrested “at a residence in the Central Burrows area.”
Winnipeg resident Iain Alexander Tod, 25, has been charged with five offences: sexual assault, sexual interference, posession of child pornography, and two other offences related to distibuting or publishing child pornography.
Winnipeg Police say their investigation is ongoing.
