A group of University of Manitoba business students has taken first place at an American business plan competition.

Kyle Emond, Erik St. Hilaire and Sonja Tunovic of the Asper School of Business came first with their business plan and presentation at the University of Louisville’s 2009 Brown-Forman Cardinal Challenge Business Plan Competition.

The win, announced by the University of Manitoba on Friday, gives them a cash prize of $15,000 US and a berth in the MOOT Corp. Global Competition in Austin, Tex., this May, considered the Super Bowl of the competitions.

The team won by showing a plan to commercialize a dental diagnostic method — developed by the NRC Institute for Biodiagnostics — which would detect potential cavities earlier.
