WINNIPEG — Buhler Industries has acquired the assets of a South Dakota auger manufacturer and will establish its second U.S. production facility.

Winnipeg-based Buhler acquired the land, buildings, equipment, tooling, inventory, patents and trademarks of Feterl Manufacturing Corp. in Salem, S.D., located northwest of Sioux Falls, S.D.

Feterl went into bankruptcy and closed late last year.

It made a line of augers, some of which competed with Buhler Industries’ line of Farm King brand augers. The plant employed as many as 50 people.

The acquisition will enable Buhler Industries to expand the line of Farm King grain handling equipment and increase auger manufacturing capacity.

The 145,000 square foot facility manufactured grain handling equipment including conventional (top drive) augers, swing-away (swing drive) augers, drive-over hoppers and grain cleaners.

The acquisition is supported by a low interest loan provided by South Dakota Economic Development Corp.

Buhler also has a production facility in Fargo, N.D., in addition to its Winnipeg, Morden and Winkler facilities.
