MOTOR Coach Industries has landed a much-needed sale to Greyhound Lines that will allow it to boost sagging employment at its Winnipeg and Pembina, N.D., plants by 100.
Greyhound has awarded MCI a contract for 70 custom-designed D4505 coaches with an option for another 30.
About 90 per cent of Greyhound’s North American fleet are MCI coaches.
Delivery will start this June.
Tom Sorrells, president and CEO of MCI, said in a statement, “It’s gratifying that Greyhound has once again turned to MCI for its equipment needs. With the current state of the economy and a growing movement toward more ecologically friendly travel, we’re very pleased to be able to offer Greyhound the reliability, value and amenities so important in today’s competitive marketplace.”
The new Greyhound coaches will feature Wi-Fi, passenger power outlets, three-point seat belts, a wheelchair lift and will be wired for up to six on-board surveillance cameras.
