AFTER hundreds of thousands of dollars of investment and two years in business, Rinkside Restaurant & Bar has closed.
Rinkside was one of the first new establishments built to capitalize on the MTS Centre, and it sits squarely in CentreVenture’s newly designated sports and entertainment district.
The former site of a Salisbury House restaurant on the south side of Portage Avenue, a block from the MTS Centre, underwent extensive renovations and by all accounts generated busy lunch trade and pre and post-event business from the arena.
Statements of claim totalling $363,000 have been filed against Rinkside. The former owners could not be reached.
“It’s a tough go out there,” said Scott Jocelyn of the Manitoba Restaurant & Foodservice Association.
Across the street on Portage, 4Play Sportsbar has just opened. Its owners have invested significant money renovating the former Blush nightclub.
