PEOPLE

Naomi Medeiros

has joined McKim Cringan George as the agency’s first director of finance, where she leads and co-ordinates financial planning and oversees daily financial operations of Winnipeg’s largest advertising agency. Medeiros has worked at the Royal Bank of Canada in personal banking, business banking and group risk management. She later worked at the provincial Treasury Board Secretariat and most recently provided financial and analytical support to the Financial Services Branch of Competitiveness, Training and Trade. She has a Commerce degree from the University of Manitoba and is a Chartered Financial Analyst and a Certified General Accountant.

AWARDS

Stephanie Besselt-O’Leary and Dave Hardy

have achieved MGDC status, a distinction granted to practising graphic designers who meet practice and professional requirements, the Society of Graphic Designers of Canada, Manitoba chapter, has announced. Besselt-O’Leary has nine years work and education at The FaQtory, where she works on design and illustration projects ranging from educational planners to the adventures of a cartoon raccoon and owl. Hardy, senior designer at BCG Communications, has 10 years experience in Winnipeg and overseas with conceptually driven print and, more recently, online media-based campaigns. He is a native of Manchester, England.

Dr. Bruce Roe

executive director of clinical programs and chief medical officer at St. Boniface General Hospital, has received the Ron Duhamel Award for exceptional work as leader of the LEAN transformation program. Roe has been instrumental in the implementation of this program for enhanced efficiencies in health-care delivery at St. Boniface. The award, named after the late Ronald Duhamel, former federal minister and senator, honours distinguished service to Manitoba’s francophone community.

Journeys Travel & Leisure SuperCentre

received the 2010 Retailer of the Year award at the annual Luggage, Leather, Handbags and Accessories Association (LLHA) trade show in Toronto. LLHA is composed of manufacturers and distributors of major brand products to luggage and department stores in Canada.

Manitoba Trucking Association

has awarded its final three MTA-Custom Truck Sales Inc. Industry Excellence Awards for 2009. The winners have almost 90 years of combined driving experience approaching 10 million miles. They are Ken Bradley of Portage la Prairie, Arnold Brothers Transport Ltd.; Steve Simmons of Winnipeg, Arnold Brothers; and Bill Gagnon of Brandon, Big Freight Systems Inc.

Manitoba Physiotherapy Association

presented recognition awards at its April annual general meeting. The Susan Macdonald Award for significant contribution to the profession went to Sam Steinfeld of Sport Physiotherapy Centre. Carrie Fruehm, Susan Bowman, Moni Fricke received the Leonore Saunders Mentorship Award. Adrian Salonga received the Joan Edwards Award for outstanding promotion of the profession and leadership early in his physiotherapy career.

BOARDS

Hope and Howard Morry

have been named 2010 Combined Jewish Appeal Campaign co-chairs by the Jewish Federation of Winnipeg. Both have a long history of service: Howard Morry as president of the Jewish Federation of Winnipeg and chairman of the Combined Jewish Appeal, and Hope Morry as co-chair of the Lion of Judah Division, the Top Donors Division and the Women’s Campaign for Combined Jewish Appeal. Both have served on numerous boards.

North Winnipeg Credit Union

has announced its board of directors for 2010-2011, elected at the AGM held on April 12. Sophia Kachor is chair; Myron Pawlowsky is vice-chair; Nicholas Chubenko is secretary. Directors: Orest Deneka, Ihor Gawrachynsky, Boris Hwozdulych, Tania Ruday, Irena Waplak and Stephen Werhun.

Don Wilson

has been appointed president of the Aboriginal Chamber of Commerce. Wilson, originally from Peguis First Nation, was educated at Red River Community College, University of Winnipeg and University of Manitoba. He has worked in public housing, education, employment and business professions and has extensive volunteer experience with numerous boards and committees within the aboriginal community.
