PEOPLE

Dr. Terry Klassen

has joined the Manitoba Institute of Child Health (MICH), the research division of the Children’s Hospital Foundation of Manitoba, as director of research. Klassen received his medical degree from the University of Manitoba in 1982 and in 1995-1996 was founding director of IM-PACT (Injuries Manitoba – Prevention of Adolescent and Childhood Trauma). He comes to MICH from Edmonton, where he was founding director of the Alberta Research Centre for Health Evidence as well as professor in the department of pediatrics at the University of Alberta.

Angela Davis

has been appointed associate professor and head of the business administration degree program at Booth University College. Davis holds a master of science degree from Central Michigan University, an honours commerce degree from Carleton University, a certified fraud examiner designation and a chartered accountant designation. Davis articled with Deloitte & Touche. After leaving public practice, she moved to the garment industry for a position at Freed & Freed International and also applied her expertise and experience in agriculture at United Grain Growers. She was an instructor for 10 years in the business and administration department at the University of Winnipeg. Davis has also taught small business accounting for Evergreen Technical Centre/Red River College.

2010 Prairie Design Architectural Awards

Manitoba firms took home six of the 10 awards at the 2010 Prairie Design Awards ceremony, held recently in conjunction with the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada’s Festival of Architecture. Manitoba projects and firms honoured with awards of excellence include: Corogamic Hut, David Penner Architect; H2Office, Cibinel Architects Ltd.; and Table of Contents, spmb. Projects and firms receiving awards of merit: Apotex Centre, Faculty of Pharmacy, Corbett Cibinel Architects; Bohemier Residence, Cohlmeyer Architecture Ltd. and 5468796 Architecture Inc.; and John A. Russell Building Exterior Envelope Replacement, LM Architectural Group. "We’re excited to see such a strong showing from Manitoba architectural firms at this prestigious Prairie Design Awards program," Art Martin, president of the Manitoba Association of Architects, said. "Manitoba architects have a long and proud tradition of innovation and design and technical excellence in this province and this latest recognition reinforces the value of this profession and its contributions to the built environment."
