WINNIPEG — The spring flood put a damper on the local resale-homes market in April, WinnipegREALTORS said today.
The association said listings, sales and the dollar-volume of sales all took a double-digit hit last month in the Winnipeg area.
Listings were off by 15 per cent from April of last year, units sales were down by 13 per cent, and the dollar volume of sales fell by 11 per cent.
It said the pattern was the same as in two previous major flood years — 2009 and 1997.
“As one of those homeowners along the Red River in St. Vital, I understand first hand how Manitobans put priority over saving their home compared to listing or buying one,” WR president Ralph Fyfe said in a statement.
The association said 1,148 homes were sold last month versus 1,317 a year earlier, while the dollar volume was $268.8 million versus $303.1 million.
The declines left sales running one per cent ahead of last year’s pace after the first four months of the year — 3,681 versus 3,626 — and dollar volume running five per cent ahead — $839.3 million versus $797 million.
