WINNIPEG – The man who spearheaded the return of the NHL to Winnipeg avoided microphones like the plague during the entire process but that’s about to change. For one day at least.

Mark Chipman has been booked to address a Winnipeg Chamber of Commerce luncheon on June 16 at the Fairmont Hotel.

Not only will there be a microphone at the podium, but the Chamber promises the chairman of True North Sports & Entertainment will provide “the inside scoop” on the deal.

JOE BRYKSA/WINNIPEG FREE PRESS Mark Chipman of True North Sports and Entertainment LTD , right, is congratulated by NHL commissioner Gary Bettman after the announcement of the NHL return to Winnipeg yesterday.

The luncheon is scheduled to start at 11:30 a.m. and wrap up two hours later.

Tickets for Chamber members are $45 and $60 for the general public.

If you want to go, you better act quickly: “Tickets have been going fast and furious today,” said Chuck Davidson, the Chamber’s vice-president of policy.

“We’re expecting a big crowd for this one.”
