A 37-year-old man has been charged with fraud after allegedly operating a bogus furnace business.
Police said the man was arrested Wednesday at about noon near Redwood Avenue and Andrews Street.
The arrest was the result of six complaints police received over the last three months.
The man allegedly cold-called victims and offered them inspections or repairs, said police.
However, police said in one case the man put in a faulty valve which could have caused a carbon monoxide leak.
In other cases, the man received money for jobs he didn’t finish. Police said the man received about $5,000 through the fraud.
Scott Robert Anderson was charged with six counts of fraud under $5,000, two counts of mischief enjoyment of property, and one count of mischief rendering something dangerous. He was detained at the Remand Centre.
Police said the victims lived in different parts of the city, including a 79-year-old woman who lives in River Heights.
