THERE’S a new heavyweight in the local branding and marketing industry.

Three of the city’s creative agencies — Clark + Huot, Cocoon Branding and Velocity Branding/Spacecadet Design — have merged to create one of the city’s largest branding/marketing firms. The new company is called ClarkHuot Cocoon. It will be based out of an office in the Exchange District and will have a combined staff of about 20.

Kyle Romaniuk, former brand director and principal at Cocoon and the new firm’s managing director for Canada, said the partners expect to move into their new digs within the next week or two. However, the full integration of their operations will likely take about 60 to 90 days to complete.

He said no jobs will be lost as a result of the merger.

“We are not laying off any people. We might actually be looking to add more.”

Romaniuk said the new firm will offer a full range of branding, marketing and advertising services.

He and Edmond Huot, the new firm’s executive creative director, said all three firms offered a full range of services when they were on their own. But they each had one discipline that tended to dominate.

Clark + Huot, for example, did more branding work, Romaniuk said, while Cocoon had more experience on the advertising/creative/innovation side. Velocity’s strength was on the digital side. Now all of those strengths will be concentrated under one roof.

“After carefully weighing the benefits of a merger, we believe the resulting agency will be better positioned than ever to develop cross-platform marketing programs that connect with consumers through meaningful creative concepts,” said Peter Clark, who was president of Clark + Huot and is CEO of the new firm.

Although Winnipeg will continue to be their primary market, Romaniuk said all three firms did work outside of Manitoba and the new entity will also serve both national and international clients.
