The newly named Lakeview Hecla Resort is fully open for business.
Less than five months after acquiring the property out of receivership, where it had been mired in suspended animation for two years, Lakeview Management Inc. officials say they believe the property has a bright future.
Lakeview vice-president Wayne Bollman said the 90-room resort with conference facilities, golf course and restaurants has truly been brought back to life.
“People are going to say, ‘What will make you different than the other guys before you?’ ” Bollman said.
For one thing, even after spending close to $1 million reopening the property, Lakeview will take over operations with no debt.
Also, the company’s portfolio of Manitoba properties, including hotels in Gimli and Brandon and two Winnipeg airport hotels, including The Grand, scheduled to open in September, will mean a stronger marketing reach.
“We’ll be able to reach out to a much wider demographic,” Bollman said.
There are all sorts of package rates planned for stay-and-play golfers at Lakeview’s Hecla and Gimli properties and Bollman said there are already bookings for the Grand hotel, with plans to bus guests from the new airport hotel for an overnight stay at Hecla.
Unlike the last owners of the property, Lakeview’s plan is to market Lakeview Hecla Resort as an affordable family getaway with room rates $149 at the peak of the season and current bookings as low as $99 per night.
“This is close-to-home, affordable family recreation,” Bollman said. “You can even bring your pets.”
