Three new pop-up retailers officially opened today in Portage Place Shopping Centre.

The three include a street-clothing shop, a new business that rents out lighting equipment and public-address systems for different events, and a business that sells a package of passes to a variety of Winnipeg attractions, including museums and festivals.

The three will share rent-free space for the summer in a formerly vacant storefront on the second floor of the mall.

The space is being provided with the help of the mall and the Downtown Winnipeg Business Improvement Zone as part of the Launch It! Retail Incubator program.

The program, now in its second year, provides young entrepreneurs with an opportunity to gain experience running a mini retail store and to test the market for their products.

The hope is that some of them will eventually open a permanent store downtown.
