Mary Jane Hiebert

manager at Canada One Travel in Steinbach was voted by her peers to lead the Association of Canadian Travel Agencies as the chairwoman of the national board of directors. Hiebert has been an active member of the association since 1994, and joined the ACTA Manitoba Regional Council in 2006. In 2010, she was selected to represent the Manitoba Council on ACTA’s national board, serving in many capacities leading up to her most recent appointment.

a lawyer at Thompson Dorfman Sweatman LLP, was recently acclaimed to the position of secretary-treasurer for the Canadian Bar Association’s entertainment, media and communications law section.

Fikret Berkes

a distinguished professor in the University of Manitoba’s Natural Resources Institute, is the recipient of the 2015 Elinor Ostrom Award on Collective Governance of Common Resources. Berkes receives this prestigious award because he established the notion that social and ecological systems should be regarded as linked adaptive systems, and he developed the idea that traditional ecological knowledge is a cumulative body of knowledge, practice and belief, connecting world views, knowledge, and commons institutions.

has been named managing partner for the Marketing Department Worldwide, the first advertising and marketing consultancy business in the United States to establish a network of local offices dedicated to providing creative and affordable marketing solutions for entrepreneurs and small businesses. Newnham will manage the first Canadian office with more openings planned later in 2015. He has 15 years of sales and marketing experience in the media, tourism and retail industries. Before launching the Marketing Department in Winnipeg, Aaron spent five years as a director of advertising sales at the Winnipeg Free Press.
