Hey there, time traveller!

A Winnipeg boxspring and mattress factory — Canwest Bedding Ltd. — has been purchased by the Canadian subsidiary of Serta Simmonds Bedding, LLC. for an undisclosed sum.
Canwest, which has a bedding factory at 60 Bunting St., had operated as an independent Serta licensee for the Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Northwestern Ontario region.
The purchase of Canwest gives Serta Simmons subsidiary SSH Bedding Canada Co. control of the manufacturing and distribution of all Serta and Simmonds products in Canada.
“We are excited to bring on board the Canwest operations and team,” SSB President Michael Traub said in a statement. “Not only have we expanded our ownership of the Serta brand in Canada, the acquisition demonstrates our commitment to advancing a key strategic goal for SSB, and that is to become a leading international operator.”
Under SSH’s ownership, Canwest will continue to produce Serta products for customers in Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Northwestern Ontario.
Benjamin Kay, Canwest’s president and chief operating officer, will also continue with the company in a consulting role for the near future to help ensure a smooth transition.
“We are pleased by this transaction because it ensures the continued vibrancy of the Serta brand across Canada, as well as a secured future for our dedicated Canwest employees,” Kay said.
