Jack London

has been appointed to the CancerCare Manitoba board. London is a senior counsel with Pitblado Law, a former professor and dean of the Faculty of Law at the University of Manitoba, and founding chairman of the Manitoba Law Foundation. He has extensive local, national and international experience in matters of aboriginal and constitutional law, succession planning and taxation and alternate dispute resolution, particularly mediation. His appointment to the board was effective April 18 and will expire on Jan. 18, 2020. Under the CancerCare Manitoba Act, the board includes 22 members and sets the agenda for the long-term strategies, vision and planning of CancerCare Manitoba.

Nostalgia Broadcasting Inc. (93.7 FM)

has elected its board of directors for 2017-18. Executive members are: Tom Dercola (president); Dorothy Dobbie (vice-president); Bill Perlmutter (secretary-treasurer); Adam Glynn (station manager). Directors are: Jan Currier, Carrie Diacos, Gil Forrest, Jim Ingebrigtsen, Jaye Langdon, Grant Patterson, Jim Pappas, Ernie Nairn, Wayne Rogers, Lyle Smordin, Cathy Stephens and Larry Updike. AWARDS

One credit union and two credit union managers from Manitoba were among the 2017 National Credit Union Awards Program recipients who were recently honoured at the Canadian Credit Union Association annual meeting in Halifax: Assiniboine Credit Union received the 2017 National Credit Union Social Responsibility Award for their Eco-Excellence Program. Receiving a National Young Leaders award were: Emma Lafreniere, manager, loss prevention, at Steinbach Credit Union; and Sara Rusak, manager, business integration, at Assiniboine Credit Union. The CCUA is the national trade association for Canada’s credit unions and caisses populaires outside of Quebec.

2017 Mayor’s BIZ Awards

Mayor Brian Bowman has recognized 16 Winnipeg individuals and organizations that have made contributions to enhance their local Business Improvement Zones. EVENTS

The Elmwood High School Legacy Fund

is holding its annual general meeting and election of officers and trustees May 18 at 7 p.m. at Elmwood High School, 505 Chalmers Ave. The AGM will be preceded by a re-dedication of the donor plaque to recognize contributors to the fund. The AGM will also include a discussion on plans for the EHS 60th-anniversary reunion to be held in the fall of 2018.

COMPANIES

Imperial Properties

has announced that Bukki Solanke, a property manager in the company’s Winnipeg office, has received Accredited Residential Manager certification from the Real Estate Institute of Canada. The certification is conferred upon qualified applicants who have demonstrated outstanding capabilities in the management of residential properties. The designation will enable Bukki to continue his work as a leader among Imperial Properties’ management team and allow him to better contribute to meeting clients’ needs.

The Headhunters

has announced the appointment of Ryan den Teuling to the Winnipeg branch of The Headhunters. Den Teuling will be leading the information technology recruitment practice, where he will source, assess and place IT candidates for organizations across Manitoba. He has more than 15 years of successful IT sales and consulting experience, most recently as major account manager with Toshiba Business Solutions and previously as major account manager with Ricoh Canada. He also has a degree in business administration from the Netherlands and extensive sales training, including presidents club status with Sandler Sales Training. The Headhunters is a full-service recruitment firm with offices across Western Canada.
