Four Manitoba companies have been named finalists in the 2017 EY Entrepreneur Of The Year Awards for the Prairies region. They are:

Lloyd Dyck of BrettYoung Seeds Ltd. in the business-to-business products and services category — the family-owned business operates in three sectors: seed and crop inputs including BrettYoung brand canola and forage seed and Elite brand corn and soybean seed; wholesale forage and turf seed for the domestic market and exported to more than 40 countries; and professional turf and reclamation work.

Glenn Kletke of Kletke Seed Farm Ltd. of Teulon in the business-to-business products and services category — a family-owned business that boasts a technologically advanced seed-coating plant that treats a good portion of western Canadian canola seed as well as forage seed-coating that serves local, national and international markets.

David Baker of ThinkShift in the business-to-consumer products and services category — the 20-year-old digital marketing agency with more than 70 employees, is now one of the largest agencies in Western Canada with a specific focus on agriculture.

Eric Boisjoli, Yvan Boisjoli, Stefan Maynard and Jason Myers of Bold Commerce in the emerging technology category — Bold is by far the largest Shopify app developer with more than 20 apps for the popular e-commerce platform. The company has branched out into new product development and has a staff of about 150 people and growing.

“Our Prairies finalists are tackling issues head-on with fresh new ideas that they dared to dream and pursue,” said Rob Jolley, EY Entrepreneur Of The Year Prairies program director. “They represent such a diverse range of sectors — from health care and technology, to manufacturing and clean tech — which is a true reflection of our Prairies community.”

The businesses of all 33 Prairies finalists employ 4,609 people, see year-over-year growth and generate almost $1.5 billion in annual revenues.
