Hey there, time traveller!

Maserati and Alfa Romeo are two legendary Italian brands that most car enthusiasts instantly recognize as exotic.
With Thursday night’s grand opening of Maserati & Alfa Romeo of Winnipeg in the Waverley Auto Mall, Winnipeggers looking to buy, or test drive, those brands no longer have to travel to Toronto or Calgary, where the nearest dealerships were located.
Some of the cars on the lot carry a price tag north of $200,000, according to general manager Brendan Morris, making it the spot to get the most prestigious luxury vehicles in Winnipeg.
Asked if he hopes there will be a market for that kind of high-end product in the city, Morris said it has already become clear there is one.
“We don’t hope there’s a market; we already know there’s a market. We’ve sold many and it’s a broad spectrum in terms of the clientele,” Morris said.
While the lot has been open for business since early 2018, the official grand opening of the dealership wasn’t held until Thursday night due to ongoing renovations at the building, located on the 1700 block of Waverley Street.
“We’ve had this day in the works for quite a while. We just weren’t prepped to have a grand opening any earlier. But I think the wait will be worth it, a lot of planning, time and money went into this,” Morris said.
He went on to say that so far, Winnipeggers seem excited to have a new option when it comes to luxury vehicles on the local market. All Alfa Romeo and Maserati vehicles are made in Italy before being shipped to the dealership.
“People are excited to have something different here. It’s a new brand and we have the ability to give someone a different choice now. It’s been phenomenal. There’s been excitement for us and for our customers,” Morris said.
The grand opening was held Thursday evening at the dealership, with an estimated attendance of more than 200 people.
