Delta 9 opens store at Norwood Hotel

Guests of the Norwood Hotel who are so inclined will now have handy access to their favorite cannabis products right on the premises.

Delta 9 Cannabis has opened their 40th store and 18th in Winnipeg at the Marion Street hotel.

Locating in the St. Boniface institution fits into Delta 9’s strategic focus on high traffic shopping destinations.

While many other cannabis retailers have found competition to be intense, Delta 9 – one of the largest vertically integrated cannabis companies in the country with production, wholesale and retail operations – continues to grow its retail footprint.

Most of its stores are in Manitoba and Alberta with a couple in Saskatchewan.

“Delta 9 expanded its retail network by 24 stores in 2022 and we expect continued expansion of our retail portfolio across Canada next year,” said John Arbuthnot, CEO of Delta 9. “The opening of our newest Winnipeg store highlights our commitment to continued expansion in our retail segment of our business.”

Delta 9’s decision to stick to to the retail space – it currently has about 20 per cent of the retail market in Manitoba – is contrary to some of the other legacy licensed producers in Canada who also got into retail when it was first legalized.

On Wednesday Canopy Growth Corp. sold off its 23 retail Tweed and Tokyo Smoke retail stores in Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Newfoundland and Labrador to OEG Retail Cannabis, a division of Katz Group.

OEG also bought the Tokyo Smoke brand. It formerly had a master franchise agreement for the Tokyo Smoke chain.

Over the past three years, OEGRC has grown Tokyo Smoke into the largest cannabis retailer in Ontario with over 60 franchise and corporate stores.
