SkipTheDishes is skipping the shopping cart. Instead, it’s unrolling an option for Apple product users to buy gift cards through their iMessage app.

The Winnipeg-headquartered company announced Monday people can buy gift cards through iMessage after downloading the food delivery chain’s app.

People with iPhones can then tap the “plus” icon in iMessage, find the Skip Gift Cards extension and browse gift cards ranging from $25 to $100.

The business decision follows Starbucks. The coffee chain revealed a similar gift card extension in 2017.

SkipTheDishes is the first food delivery company to launch such a product, according to a spokesperson. It comes amid the holiday season (and just two weeks before Christmas).

Once a gift card is purchased through iMessage, it can be sent instantly, the SkipTheDishes spokesperson noted.

Holiday and birthday themes will be offered.
