OTTAWA – A quick look at Canada’s August employment figures (numbers from the previous month in brackets):
Unemployment rate: 6.6 per cent (6.4)
Employment rate: 60.8 per cent (60.9)
Participation rate: 65.1 per cent (65.0)
Number unemployed: 1,458,900 (1,398,500)
Number working: 20,535,700 (20,513,600)
Youth (15-24 years) unemployment rate: 14.5 per cent (14.2)
Men (25 plus) unemployment rate: 5.6 per cent (5.2)
Women (25 plus) unemployment rate: 5.0 per cent (4.9)
