Manitoba counted an extra 10,000 full-time jobs last month, surpassing the national rate, Statistics Canada data show.
Meanwhile, Manitoba’s unemployment rate stayed below Canada’s average — 5.8 per cent compared to 6.8 per cent nationally. Manitoba’s unemployment rate decreased month-over-month, while Canada’s rose 0.3 per cent.
“Our government is working across industries to grow the economy, increase productivity and attract more investments to our province,” Finance Minister Adrien Sala said in a news release Monday. “These latest numbers show our economic plan is working for Manitobans.”
The NDP government has announced it’ll release an economic development strategy focused on increasing productivity.
The keystone province has added 21,000 jobs over a year. In November 2023, Statistics Canada counted 703,000 jobs in Manitoba.
However, unemployment has risen year-over-year: the province’s unemployment rate was 4.9 per cent 11 months ago, a lower number than the 5.8 per cent clocked in November 2024. Nationally, Canada’s unemployment rate has also grown year-over-year.
Manitoba Perogy Trail counts 1,000 check-ins
The Manitoba Perogy Trail — a Travel Manitoba creation dotted with local eateries and shops — counted its 1,000th check-in earlier this year.
In celebration, Perogy Planet donated $5,000 to Oseredok Ukrainian Cultural and Education Centre on Monday.
Participants on the perogy trail are encouraged to check in during their feasting. The 1,000th check-in happened at Luda’s Deli, on Aberdeen Avenue, in November. Fifty-six restaurants participate in the trail. People who check-in at 25 or more stops receive a Manitoba Perogy Trail pin.
Perogy Planet, the trail’s sponsor, is based in Winnipeg.
