The Manitoba government is providing a $250,000 grant to CentrePort Canada Inc. to bolster its efforts to continue to develop its successful inland port operation.

CentrePort has operated as a not-for-profit operation since 2009 and has typically received little financial support from governments for its operations.

Over the past six years, development permits with an economic impact of $785 million have been issued at the inland port.

There’s now more than 250 new companies operating on the 20,000-acre footprint with more than three million square feet of industrial construction, including the building of nine new industrial parks such as CentrePort Canada Rail Park.

“Since its launch, CentrePort has not only brought excellent jobs to Manitoba but has helped put Manitoba on the map as a transportation and supply chain hub for North America,” Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Lisa Naylor said in a release Thursday.

She said the provincial government is pleased to continue supporting such an innovative organization “as it works to grow Manitoba’s economy and bring new companies to CentrePort.”
