DENARE BEACH – A village and town in Saskatchewan ravaged by wildfire this summer has come up with a plan to temporarily house its residents this winter.
Leaders from Denare Beach, the town of Creighton and Saskatchewan’s public safety agency met last week with community members and say the plan includes installing up to 35 temporary modular homes.
They say the units will allow those displaced to access local services and supports in their own community.
Officials say they are expected to become available to residents starting in October.
Creighton Mayor Bruce Fidler says it’s important to bring in the temporary housing as those displaced work to rebuild and recover from the June fire that destroyed more than 200 homes.
Denare Beach Mayor Carl Lentowicz says working to help residents return to their permanent homes remains the priority.
