An annual program connecting established and new farmers has launched its application period.

The Young Agrarians Business Mentorship Network is open for new mentees — farmers in their first decade of business, including taking over a family farm.

Producers undergo 30 hours of direct farmer-to-farmer mentorship and can attend regular peer meetups. A webinar series and access to resources are included in the program. Participants learn foundational skills like record keeping, cash flow and marketing.

The mentorship network began in 2015 and expanded to Prairie provinces in 2023. The federal government funds the program through Prairies Economic Development Canada and Pacific Economic Development Canada. Vancity also contributes.

Mentor and mentee applications are found at the Young Agrarians’ website. Mentee applications are open until Oct. 30. Those who are accepted must pay a $100 program fee.
