TORONTO – Canacol Energy Ltd. says it’s seeking court protection from creditors to allow for a restructuring of the company.
The natural gas company says it’s seeking an order for creditor protection from the Court of King’s Bench of Alberta under the Companies’ Creditors Arrangement Act.
It also says it intends to seek recognition of the initial order and its CCAA proceedings in the U.S. and Colombia.
Canacol is a natural gas exploration and production company with operations focused in Colombia.
It says it faces a liquidity crisis from upcoming interest and principal payments and an unfavourable arbitration decision in a claim by VP Ingenergia.
The company also says it’s dealing with reduced natural gas production and increased trade and other accounts payables.
This report by The Canadian Press was first published Nov. 18, 2025.
