PORT MOODY – A man who committed a violent home invasion to steal cryptocurrency in 2024 has been sentenced to seven years in prison.

Police in Port Moody say Tsz Wing Boaz Chan was arrested and charged after the home invasion in the city on April 27, 2024.

Investigators say Chan’s motive for the violent robbery was stealing cryptocurrency, but police didn’t release details about the victims or the amount taken in the home invasion.

Port Moody Police say Chan pleaded guilty to break and enter, sexual assault and forcible confinement, and he has been in police custody since his arrest.

Chan was sentenced last Friday by a judge in Port Coquitlam, and it includes submitting a DNA sample, a weapons ban and a $50,000 restitution order.

Port Moody Police say Chan is not a resident of Canada and was arrested upon re-entry at Vancouver International Airport in July 2024.

Const. Sam Zacharias says they do not believe Chan acted alone and the investigation to find additional suspects is ongoing.
