HALIFAX – A man who says he was on a Porter Airlines aircraft that slid on the runway after landing Wednesday night at Halifax Stanfield International Airport says it took about two-and-a-half hours before passengers could safely exit the plane.
It was “a crazy night to say the least,” Samuel Gaboury told The Canadian Press in a text message after sharing a video from the scene.
The Transportation Safety Board of Canada says the flight from Toronto initially landed without incident at 8:21 p.m. But as the aircraft was exiting the runway onto the taxiway, it slid laterally and got stuck in the snow.
Porter Airlines said in a statement there were no reported injuries among the 59 passengers and five crew members on board. Passengers were transported by bus to the terminal in co-operation with the airport authority, it added.
The airline said the aircraft would be inspected and towed.
The Halifax airport said Thursday evening that the plane had been safely removed and that the runway had reopened.
“I want to say that the Porter crew and first responders of the airport were all amazing,” added Gaboury, who explained he had travelled to Halifax for work.
The safety board says it is collecting information and assessing what happened.
The federal agency also said there was no damage to the aircraft.
